Concrete Perception is a visual and textual dérive which purposefully detours through the problems of formalism in order to develop a specifically architectural understanding of the art of Gordon Matta-Clark. Concrete Perception draws upon theory, history, and production but relies upon observation – upon the idea of architecture as a visual, plastic art – to identify Matta-Clark’s drawings and building cuts as an example of architecture’s critical self-reflection, one in which form and space are the radical protagonists.

Jonathan Dillon is an author, educator and consultant, integrating new digital technologies into architectural practice. His research maintains architecture’s traditional core as an artistic practice which delivers design excellence as a critical component of successful place-making.
